Current statistics
According to preliminary data, in 2020 there were 3,591 road traffic accidents involving personal injury. These include 223 fatalities and 4,391 injury casualties.
The Finnish Road Safety Council publishes monthly data collected by Statistics Finland on persons injured and killed in road accidents. The data are used to compile annual reviews of accidents by road-user type and age group. Statistics Finland’s preliminary data are based on road traffic accidents recorded by the police. Monthly data are produced with a one month lag.

Road accident statistics are used in the national and international monitoring of road safety outcomes. The statistics are used, for example, as a basis for traffic safety measures and traffic planning, and in research serving the sector. The road traffic accident statistics contain information about road traffic accidents reported to the police in Finland, and data on fatalities and injuries.
