Traffic regulations

The consequences of an accident can be made less severe by using safety devices. For instance, the protection provided by the seatbelt is estimated to be almost 50 percent. Furthermore, the bicyclists’ fatal accidents would drop by half if all the bicyclists in Finland wore a helmet.

Safety devices can be divided into active and passive safety devices. Active safety devices are used to prevent the accident from ever taking place. Passive safety devices assist in minimising the bodily harm that results from the accident.
